Text to Book AssessmentFor dogs who pull, zigzag, fixate, or react — and for trained dogs who need consistent structure, calm practice, and better walk habits.
The challenge is not just finding someone to walk the dog. It is finding someone who can guide the walk with structure, timing, and calm direction.
When the walk needs more structure:
When dogs walk with us, the walk stays under structure. Pulling and zigzagging are prevented through calm leash communication, timing, and clear expectations. Every dog is also pre-screened for fit, handling needs, and safety before recurring walks begin.
Text Rob and tell him what is happening on walks. He can help you decide whether Follow the Leader is the right fit before you book anything.
Start with an assessment, a two-week trial, or a monthly membership depending on fit and readiness. Each private walk is 35 minutes, handled one-on-one, with better per-walk pricing at higher frequency.

Follow the Leader Dog Walks is led by Rob Lee — a hands-on balanced dog trainer focused on calm handling, clear communication, and real-world leash behavior.
Rob specializes in communicating with dogs through timing, body language, leash communication, movement, pressure and release, positive reinforcement, and calm direction. He also reads dogs early: the small shifts in posture, speed, scanning, fixation, and tension that often appear before a walk becomes difficult.
Follow the Leader walks are built around calm, steady leadership in everyday environments. The goal is to help dogs stay connected to the handler, move with more structure, recover better around distractions, and build more predictable walking behavior over time.
Structured Freedom is Rob’s broader training philosophy. It draws from a multidisciplinary lens: service dog foundation work, therapy dog handling principles, behavioral psychology, pack leadership, balanced training, and positive reinforcement.
Follow the Leader Dog Walks applies part of that philosophy through structured walks: light training, consistent handling, confidence-building, desensitization, and practical rehearsal during real neighborhood walks.
Lagoon paths, apartment exits, narrow sidewalks, dogs, bikes, scooters, birds, and passing distractions make structure useful here.
Built for busy professionals and dog parents who want the best for their furry family members — with private walks, familiar handling, and a calmer weekly routine.
Your dog is family. Follow the Leader Dog Walks is built to feel calm, careful, and dependable from the first walk.

These questions are ordered around how a Foster City dog owner usually decides: what this is, whether it fits their dog, what happens on the walk, how weather is handled, and how to book.
Follow the Leader Dog Walks provides insured, trainer-led private dog walks in Foster City for dogs who need more structure than a casual walk.
A regular dog walker may focus mainly on getting the dog outside. Follow the Leader focuses on the quality of the walk: pace, leash structure, calmer movement, boundaries, and safer handling around everyday distractions.
This is dog walking with trainer-led handling during the walk. It is not a formal behavior-modification program, but each walk is structured so the dog is guided instead of rehearsing pulling, rushing, fixation, or chaotic leash behavior.
This is best for dogs who pull, zigzag, rush ahead, fixate, bark, lunge, get overstimulated, or need a more capable person guiding the leash. It can also fit dogs who are generally good but benefit from a calmer weekly walking routine.
Yes. Easy dogs can still benefit from private, consistent, professional walks, especially when owners want a dependable routine with more structure than a casual neighborhood walk.
Yes. We have significant experience working with reactive dogs, but every dog is different. Dogs with reactivity, aggression concerns, or a bite history require a Walk Assessment before choosing a plan. The assessment helps determine fit, handling needs, safety considerations, and whether Follow the Leader walks are the right next step.
Walks are private. Follow the Leader is built around one-on-one handling, not group dog walking.
The Walk Assessment gives us a chance to meet the dog, observe leash behavior, review handling needs, check safety fit, and recommend the right next step before recurring walks begin.
A standard walk is a private 35-minute structured walk. The dog is guided through calmer movement, leash boundaries, direction changes, appropriate stops, and return-to-structure moments after sniffing, potty breaks, or distractions.
Yes. The goal is not to make the walk rigid. Sniffing and potty time can be included, but the dog is guided back into structure afterward so the walk does not turn into pulling, zigzagging, or fixation.
Walks can still happen in light rain when it is safe and appropriate for the dog. Depending on the weather, the dog, and the walking environment, the walk may be adjusted outdoors or moved to a covered location for structure, movement, potty time, and calm leash work. Severe weather, unsafe conditions, or poor visibility may require assessment and adjustment.
If your schedule changes, weekly walks can be adjusted. Some weeks can have more walks and others fewer, so the plan can flex around travel or schedule changes.
Monthly Enrichments are optional upgrades that can be added to selected walks when they fit the dog and the routine. Examples include Meditation, Distraction Walk, Mentor Pack Walk, Adventure Hike, Dog Owner Walking Lesson, and Multiple Dog Household Walk.
Yes. If you continue after the Two-Week Trial, the amount paid for the trial is credited toward the first month of the monthly plan you choose.
Gentle Leader includes 2 walks per week, Steady Leader includes 3 walks per week, and Pack Leader includes 5 walks per week. Each recurring walk is private and 35 minutes.
Yes. Follow the Leader Dog Walks carries commercial general liability coverage for professional pet-care work. Proof of insurance can be reviewed upon request.
No permanent behavior outcome is guaranteed. Follow the Leader walks can help improve behavior over time when paired with owner consistency and follow-through at home. Private Dog Owner Walking Lessons are available as a Monthly Enrichment to help transfer the same walking structure and handling skills to the owner.
Start by booking the Walk Assessment. After the assessment, we can recommend whether the dog should begin with a trial, a monthly routine, or a different next step.
